Wine

Wine is an alcoholic drink obtained from fermented grapes. The alcoholic fermentation consists in the transformation of sugars to ethanol produced by yeast. In this process it is also released carbon dioxide in gaseous state, which causes the bubbling and the characteristic aroma. Different varieties of grapes and strains of yeasts produce different styles of wine which are normally classified as: Red wine, White wine and Pink wine. However, it is also common to classify wine by their age: joven, crianza, reserve y gran reserve

 Cava

Cava is a Spanish protected DO of sparkling wines made by the traditional method. The region that covers the DO, called Cava Region, comprises mainly the Catalan region of Penedés (areas of Barcelona and Tarragona).

At the end of 19th century, after the phylloxera ruined the grape crops, new white grape varieties were introduced. This substitution of grapes signified the birth of this sparkling wine so characteristic, who obtained the DO cava, category in which all top quality sparkling wines are grouped.

It is a mixture of white wine, sugar and yeast which, when fermented, will produce carbon dioxide and other characteristic aromas. According to the quantity of sugar added, the following types of cava are distinguished: Brute Nature, Extra Brute, Brut, Dry and Sweet.
